“You're the first customer since midnight. And you're dressed for 1995.”
Before you film anything, watch your episode. In this video: the look, the cast and the places; a picture for every shot; and a voice for every line. Then you play the board: the whole episode, before a single clip is made.
This is the board, the second step of an episode. The look comes first: one picture that sets the light and the colour of the whole show. Everything after is drawn from it. It costs four cents. Choose Draw the look.
The look is drawn. Next, the cast and the places: a portrait and a full body for each character, so a face stays the same from shot to shot, and one picture for each place. The price is on the button. Choose Draw the cast and the places.
The cast and the places are drawn. Now the board itself: a picture for every shot, each drawn from the look, its characters and its place. Choose Draw the board.
Here is the board: fourteen shots, one picture each. A character who speaks is drawn from behind, so their line plays over the picture; the third video films a line in sync, face on. Below it, what every shot is drawn from: the look, then Elias, Dana and Mara, each with a portrait and a full body, the café, and Gate Zero. Click a picture to see it large.
In shot six, Elias leans in beside Mara; he should stay across the counter, and his coffee is black, in a paper cup. Open the picture and say what should change, as you would to an illustrator. Everything else stays as it is, and the old picture stays among the takes. Choose Redraw with this change.
Here's the new picture: the coffee is black and Elias stands back, but the cup is still china. Say it again with a note, or keep whichever you prefer; both takes stay with the shot.
The voices: one for each who speaks. Choose the voices, and each picker lists every voice, each with a line about how it sounds. For Mara, Sarah: confident, and young. For Elias, George, a warm British storyteller. Dana has no line yet. Hear it reads a first line in that voice.
Then every line, read in its character's voice. What you hear here is the sound of the film. Choose Voice the lines.
Last, choose Play the board. Kiju puts it together on this Mac, for free.
Each picture held for its seconds, the lines over them in their voices, and the captions. This is your episode, before a single clip is filmed.
Pause here, and make yours: the look, the cast and the places; a picture for every shot; and a voice for every line. Then play the board, before you film. Ours: seventy-two cents for this episode's board, plus the look, the cast and the places, drawn once for the whole show. Next: film it.
The film is in English, with English captions. Filmed on the Kiju show desk, before its release. The images, the video, the voices and the music in the films are AI-generated.
