Experiment 03 · Video

Seven video models, one anime frame, blind

One validated keyframe, one prompt, two takes from each of seven models, judged without the names. The review kept both Hailuo 3 Max takes, at $0.48 each, and one of two from Kling 3.0 Pro; none from the other five.

Prompt and settings

The prompt, as sent
Leo jumps up with the laptop raised, bouncing with excitement; Ada lifts one finger; Leo freezes mid-jump and deflates comically; static camera. Japanese 2D TV anime, cel shading, flat colors, crisp thick black outlines, limited animation with held poses; character designs, outfits and background identical to the first image; one clear action beat; no 3D render, no photorealism, no morphing faces, no extra people, no text, no subtitles, no watermark.

How it was judged

Each take was shown behind a card — A1, A2, B1… — and judged before the card-to-model mapping was opened (labo/README.md). The verdicts were written take by take on 28 September; the mapping went into the lab log after them. Leo and Ada are characters of the studio’s series POC!, drawn from text.

What was kept, and why

Three takes out of fourteen: both Hailuo takes (E1, E2) and Kling’s first (A1). Kling’s second moved the boy’s legs and face strangely toward the end. The five other models kept none — odd backgrounds, odd motion; in the review’s words, it “looks AI-generated”.

The cheapest model per take was also the cheapest per kept shot: Hailuo, $0.48. A kept Kling shot cost $1.344, the price of both its takes.

What stays open

  • Two takes per model is a small sample: it shows what each model did here, not how often it does it.
  • One scene, one style. The studio’s choice for anime dialogue rests on this run; action and clay were judged in other runs.
